Strengthening Academic Synergy: IR Udayana and IR UKI Establish Partnership and Host Guest Lecture on Paradiplomacy
The International Relations Study Program of Udayana University (Unud) has officially established a strategic partnership with the International Relations Study Program of the Christian University of Indonesia (UKI). The partnership was formalized through a signing ceremony held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Sudirman Campus in Denpasar.
The signing was carried out by the leadership of both institutions: the Dean of Fisipol UKI, Dr. Verdinand Robertua, M.Soc.Sc., and the Head of the IR Study Program at UKI, Arthuur Jeverson Maya, S.Sos., M.A., alongside the Dean of FISIP Unud, Dr. Drs. I Nengah Punia, M.Si., and the Head of the IR Study Program at Unud, Ni Wayan Rainy Priadarsini, S.S., M.Hub.Int.
Exploring Environmental Issues and the New Capital City (IKN)Following the signing ceremony, both parties hosted a Guest Lecture titled "Implementation of Environmental Paradiplomacy by the East Kalimantan Provincial Government in the Governor’s Climate and Forests Task Force." The event, held at the FISIP Unud Hall, was moderated by IR Unud lecturer, Penny Kurnia Putri, S.Sos., M.A.
The lecture focused on the critical role of the Governor’s Climate and Forests (GCF) Task Force in preserving the environment in East Kalimantan. This movement was highlighted as a significant form of paradiplomacy that could serve as a model for other regions. The discussion was particularly timely given East Kalimantan's role as the site for Indonesia's new capital, IKN Nusantara, addressing public concerns regarding the balance between urban development and forest conservation.
Through this partnership and academic exchange, both universities aim to continue collaborating on strategic international studies that contribute to public policy and environmental sustainability in Indonesia.
