International Relations Study Visit of Udayana University 2024.
In an effort to bridge academic theory with professional practice, the International Relations Student Association of Udayana University, through the Division of Science and Student Resource Development (KPSDM), successfully organized the International Relations Study Visit 2024. Carrying the theme "Navigating Diplomacy: Career Perspective in International Relations," the event took place from May 28 to 31, 2024, providing students with the opportunity to conduct direct observations at various governmental centers and diplomatic missions in Jakarta.
Over the four-day visit, students engaged with several formal institutions that serve as key actors in international dynamics. This educational journey included high-level visits to several foreign embassies, including the Embassy of Japan, the U.S. Embassy, the Embassy of Canada, and the Embassy of Singapore. Furthermore, students were given the chance to observe the inner workings of the ASEAN Secretariat, gaining a concrete understanding of how representation and negotiation functions are executed by diplomats within Indonesia.
Beyond foreign missions, the delegation visited domestic governmental institutions, specifically the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia under the Directorate General of Information and Public Diplomacy. This session allowed students to explore how Indonesia’s public diplomacy strategies are formulated. The experience was made even more comprehensive with a session at the United Nations Resident Coordinator to understand the role of international organizations, as well as an academic visit to Universitas Kristen Indonesia to foster networking and scholarly discussion among IR students.
The implementation of the 2024 Study Visit is expected to provide a much broader knowledge base by allowing students to witness firsthand the activities of institutions closely related to the discipline of International Relations. Beyond enriching their academic insight, the program was specifically designed to help students navigate future career perspectives. Through direct interaction with practitioners, students are expected to gain a clearer and more mature vision of the various professional paths available to them upon completing their studies at Udayana University.
