Udayana Bali Model United Nations 2022
The Model United Nations (MUN) Division of the International Relations Student Association at Udayana University organized the Udayana Bali Model United Nations (UBMUN) 2022, a simulation of United Nations conferences aimed at discussing pressing international issues while providing insights into the UN’s role in maintaining global peace and stability.
UBMUN 2022 was designed to enhance participants’ skills, particularly in public speaking, critical thinking, and diplomacy. Through this simulation, participants acted as country delegates and practiced presenting arguments and proposing solutions to global issues in a constructive manner.
Carrying the theme “The Urgency of International Response Towards Humanitarian Crisis,” the event highlighted the growing number of humanitarian crises caused by international conflicts. One of the examples discussed was the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has had significant impacts on global stability and humanitarian conditions.
The event began with a pre-event session on the first day, introducing participants to various UN councils that address specific global issues. This was followed by the MUN 101 session, which provided foundational knowledge about Model United Nations procedures and conference simulations.
On the second and third days, participants engaged in committee sessions, the core of the event, where they simulated UN conferences. During these sessions, participants acted as country delegates, engaging in discussions, negotiations, and drafting resolutions to address the assigned issues. The event concluded with an awarding session to recognize outstanding participants.
Putu Oka Astama Adi Putra, as the Vice Chair of the event, expressed his hope that the program would provide valuable learning experiences for participants. He emphasized that the knowledge and experience gained from UBMUN 2022 would help improve participants’ public speaking skills and broaden their understanding of international issues.
Furthermore, the event is expected to encourage participants to view global conflicts from a broader perspective and promote peaceful solutions through diplomacy. In this regard, conflict resolution is envisioned to take place not through warfare, but through dialogue and negotiation at the conference table.
